The tree at Village Park gets lit by the park district on an evening in early December. If your house is on the way there, that’s the night to be ready for, and a Fair Oaks Village Christmas light installation is best planned backward from it. The rest of the plan depends on which kind of old house you have, because the Village has several.

An old town with every kind of roof

The Village is the original center of an 1895 citrus colony, and the houses around it don’t match each other. So we don’t quote these homes off a template. Tell us which kind you have at (916) 999-5158.

There are a few pre-war, Victorian-era houses. Where one has steep gables, roofline lights follow the peaks, and we use clips that grip the edge without a single nail or staple going into wood that has lasted this long. Lit garland belongs on a porch railing, if yours has one. So does a lit wreath in the gable, if there’s a spot where it sits flat. Our wreath hanging page explains how that’s hung.

Most of the housing came later, built between 1950 and 2000. Midcentury ranch homes take a straight clean run along the gutter. Spanish Revival houses can be a different job. If the roof is clay tile, we use tile clips that slide onto the lip of the tile, work from the ladder wherever it will reach, and never drill stucco. Where an entry has an arch, garland suits it, and columns on either side take pillar wraps well.

Fair Oaks Village Christmas light installation with no HOA in the way

There isn’t a homeowners association in the Village. The groups you hear about are volunteers, like the Fair Oaks Village Enhancement Committee, or public, like the park district. Fair Oaks is unincorporated county, and we haven’t turned up a county ordinance that tells a homeowner when lights may go up. So the schedule is your call. The same goes for the rest of Fair Oaks, with a few exceptions like the condos at The Bluffs.

Pricing a Village house from photos

A Fair Oaks Village Christmas light installation is priced by phone or from photos. A shot of the whole front, taken from the far curb, and one of each tree you’d like lit is plenty. Call (916) 999-5158, or send the pictures through the contact form. The lights are ours, the ladder work is ours, the timer gets set, and in January we return for the takedown.

    Trees, slopes and the bluff

Lots in Fair Oaks run a bit bigger than in Sacramento proper, and the trees have had decades to fill them. Under a heavy canopy the roof can be half hidden, so we’ll often suggest moving some of the light down into the yard. Tree wraps on a trunk and its first big limbs show from the street when the eave doesn’t. They go on by hand, with nothing driven into bark.

The town sits on steep bluffs above the American River, and some yards aren’t level. Stake lighting on a sloped walk needs the stakes set plumb and the cord run along the uphill side so rain doesn’t wash it into the path. Roughly two hundred chickens have the run of the Village, so stakes get set firmly and nothing loose is left at ground level. For brick and oaks on rolling ground, see our page on Rollingwood.

Shops and restaurants on the old streets

The historic commercial buildings in the core hold restaurants, bars and shops, and we light those too. Storefront work is mostly rooflines, window outlines and garland over a doorway, put up at an hour that doesn’t block your customers. Mention the storefront when you phone (916) 999-5158.

    The season in the Village

Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District holds the community tree lighting at Village Park. Their 2026 listing shows December 3 from 5 to 8 pm with the tree lit at 7:30. Dates can move, so check with the district before you plan around it. If your house is on the way to Village Park or Plaza Park, expect it to be seen on foot that night. Tell us that’s your target and we’ll work the install date back from it.

The district also runs Light Up! Fair Oaks, a house-decorating contest for homes in the 95628 zip code. Entered addresses get published so people can drive by and vote. A Fair Oaks address, a house on Rolling Oak Drive, made the Sacramento Bee’s 2022 lights guide for its Santa’s house and sleigh shop. No promises about trophies, but we can make sure your lights are straight, working and on a timer when the voters come past.

Asked often in Fair Oaks Village

Who sets holiday light rules in Fair Oaks Village, if anyone?

Nobody we can find. The Village has no homeowners association. Local groups are volunteer or public, and we haven’t found a county rule on timing for lights on a house.

My Village house has a clay tile roof. Can it take lights?

Yes, with the right clips. Ours are made for tile and hold on its lip, we work from the ladder wherever it reaches, and stucco and trim never get drilled.

How do I enter Light Up! Fair Oaks?

The park district runs it for homes in the 95628 zip code and publishes the entered addresses so people can drive by and vote. Check the district’s site for this year’s entry dates, and tell us you’re entering when you call.

Can a Fair Oaks Village Christmas light installation be finished before the tree lighting?

Usually, if you call early in the fall. Tell us that’s your target when you phone and we’ll plan the install date around it.

Do you light businesses in the Village?

Yes. Storefront rooflines, window outlines, wreaths and garland over entries are all things we do for shops and restaurants.
