Rancho Cordova runs along about six miles of the American River, right across the water from us, and the older streets closest to the river are where the big trees are. That’s the side of town we know best. If your house sits under a couple of old shade trees near Hagan Community Park and the lights never quite looked right when you did them yourself, call (916) 999-5158 about Rancho Cordova Christmas light installation. We handle the ladder, the lights and the takedown.

Cordova Meadows is mostly one-story houses under big shade trees, close enough to Hagan Park that a lot of the backyards feel like part of it. Rossmoor is mostly modest single-story houses with simple roofs, the kind you can outline in a morning. Lincoln Village is another mature neighborhood, and its trees have had plenty of room to spread out over the street.

What these streets share is canopy. Shade trees planted a long time ago now hang over carports and front gutters, and that changes how you light a house. We light whichever roof edges show past the leaves and put more of the effort into the trees themselves.

    Trees over carports

The trees on these streets are mostly big deciduous shade trees, and in December they’re bare, which is good news: a bare branch structure shows a wrap beautifully. We go up the trunk and out along the two or three heaviest limbs, and leave the thin outer growth alone. Where a big limb hangs low over a carport roof, we keep the carport’s own roofline run short of it so the branch can move in wind without rubbing the cord. If a tree is struggling, we’ll say so and skip it.

Carports are common on these older houses, and their posts take a pillar wrap nicely. A wrapped pair of carport posts plus a lit roofline over the carport reads as its own little display from the street, and it’s usually the easiest outlet on the property to work from.

    Walks, wreaths and the rest

Past the roof and the trees, it’s usually stakes down the front walk, set in the gaps between sprinkler heads, a lit wreath over the garage, and lit garland along a porch railing or an entry arch. If the front yard is mostly shrubs, lighting those is a good way to fill it in, and our bush lighting page shows how that looks. We plan the outlets and wire it all to a timer, so there’s no plugging and unplugging every night.

We light a few storefronts and church entries along Folsom Boulevard as well. The newer tracts farther south and east, like Anatolia, are a different job, with tile roofs and young trees, and we’ll quote those too, but the river side is home turf.
