Most of the roofs we work on around here are low, long and half hidden. A single-story ranch with a deep eave, an oak or two leaning over the front, and a gutter that fills with leaves by late fall. That’s the usual starting point for Carmichael roofline Christmas lights, and it changes how the job gets done. Call (916) 999-5158 with a description of your roof.

    Low eaves under heavy canopy

Leaves. A clip won’t seat properly on a gutter lip buried in oak leaves, so we clear the lip where the clips go first. Only the lip. It isn’t a gutter cleaning.

Branches. A limb that rubs the roof edge in a December wind will work a strand loose by New Year’s. We route around the contact point or leave a short gap. We don’t cut your trees.

Shade. A roof that stays damp under big trees grows moss and gets slick. So low eaves get done from a ladder, with our boots off the shingles.

In Del Dayo, the 1970s ranch houses sit on wide lots along oak-shaded streets, so a front eave runs a long way, with limbs hanging over a good part of it. Barrett Hills homes are single-level and date to the 1960s, many with mid-century modern lines, and the roof edge is most of what the street sees.

    A long, level run

Roofline lighting follows the edges of the house that face the street: the eaves across the front, the gutter line, and the gable rakes that climb to a peak. On a ranch home the eave is the main event. It’s a long, level run, so a sag or a crooked stretch shows right away. We set the line straight and turn the corners cleanly. We supply every strand, clip, cord and timer.

    Clips, never nails or staples

Nothing gets nailed, stapled or screwed into your house. Each light sits in a plastic clip chosen for the edge it’s going on.

If the roof is old wood shake, we stay off it. Shake is brittle and splits along the grain, so our clips go on the gutter or fascia and nothing gets pushed in between the shakes. Some older eaves have only a painted fascia, and there’s a clip that hugs that edge with no fastener. Where there is a gutter, the clip grips its front lip and slides back off without leaving a mark. Gable rakes rarely have a gutter, so a flat tab slips under the edge of the composition shingle instead. We don’t pry the shingle up, and on a frosty morning we wait, because cold shingles crack when bent.

    Gables and peaks

Two lines climbing to a point over the garage or entry give a low house some height. The work is slower up there, with no gutter and a taller ladder. Tall houses, like the high-ceilinged late-1980s homes in Phoenix Field over in Fair Oaks, have more peaks and higher ones. Tell us how many gables face the street.

    Outlets on an older ranch

Front outlets are scarce on older ranch homes, often one by the door and one inside the garage. We plan the run from what you have, tuck cords along the trim, and put the run on a timer, so it switches on at dusk and goes dark late in the evening.

Most people add something below the roof edge, like wrapped trunks on the front-yard trees or garland over the entry. If you live toward the river, our Del Dayo lighting page covers that neighborhood, and we’re in Fair Oaks the same weeks we’re in Carmichael.

Getting a quote for Carmichael roofline Christmas lights

There’s no visit. Stand at the curb, photograph the street side of the house plus any other side facing a road, and text or email the pictures over. Or call (916) 999-5158 and describe it: one story or two, gutters or none, what the roof is made of, how many peaks. The contact form works too.

After New Year’s we return, slide every clip off the way it went on, and haul the strands away. You store nothing. If a section goes dark before then, phone (916) 999-5158 and a repair trip goes on our list.

Asked often in Roofline Christmas Lights

Will the clips damage my composition shingles or gutters?

No. Gutter clips grip the front lip and shingle tabs slide under the edge without lifting it. Every clip comes off in January.

My roof is wood shake. Can you still put lights on it?

Usually, yes. We don’t walk on old shake. The clips go on your gutter or fascia, set from a ladder.

An oak hangs right over my front eave. Is that a problem?

It’s common here. We clear leaves off the gutter lip, and we route around any limb touching the roof so wind can’t rub a strand loose. We don’t trim your tree.

How is a quote for Carmichael roofline Christmas lights worked out?

From a phone call or pictures taken at the curb, never a visit. How many stories, what the roof is made of, how many edges and peaks you want lit and where the outlets are decide it.
